Phillip has over 10 years’ experience reporting on the mortgage and property markets. He has also worked extensively with Australia’s leading mortgage lenders and brokers as a corporate communications and public relations consultant. Phillip’s involvement and experience in the Australian financial and real estate sector has recently lead to an appointment to the Board of the Property Investment Professionals of Australia (PIPA) .
James Mitchell, reporter
After completing a BA in English & Philosophy in the UK, James was a cadet reporter at The Daily Telegraph in Sydney before joining the Smart Property Investment team in early 2011. He is currently completing an MA in journalism at the University of Technology.
Jennifer Duke, reporter
Jennifer joined the team as a junior journalist in late 2011, having completed a BA Communications at The University of Technology Sydney. Her passion for property, in particular heritage preservation and restoration, makes her a valuable member of the Smart Property Investment Team.

Francis has 16 years’ experience as a journalist, in Australia and the United States, and prior to covering the mortgage and real estate markets he specialised in environmental affairs, public infrastructure and the legal profession.

Russell’s property experience kick started with a career as a real estate agent in the UK. Having actively renovated a number of dilapidated properties whilst building his own investment portfolio, Russell has garnered a real wealth of knowledge and experience on all aspects of property investment. His knowledge and experience in real estate is reinforced by more than 10 years of publishing experience in the Australian real estate and financial markets.
Alex Whitlock, group publisher
Alex is a veteran in mortgage and finance publishing. He launched Australia’s first independent mortgage industry magazine in 2001 and has since successfully published a number of other titles for mortgage and real estate professionals. Alex is also an Australian property fanatic. His first property was an off-the-plan Melbourne unit, which he still owns today. He has bought and sold numerous properties over the years and is a leading writer and commentator on all aspects of buying, financing, selling and managing residential property.
